THE AKUNA Wiltipoll Stud

Everything to gain, and nothing to lose... makes this Aussie breed a wise choice!

The AKUNA Wiltipoll Stud was establish in 2021. Our founder flock consists of genetics from Glenal [ASSBA Flock 36] and Timemm [ASSBA Flock 11]. We are looking forward to increasing our current flock numbers and exhibiting the breed at regional agricultural shows.

Wiltipoll sheep are a cleanskin meat sheep that were developed in Australia in the early 1990s using reliable wool shedding and polled genetics. Key characteristics of the Wiltipoll breed include:

  • Calm, intelligent disposition and easy to muster.

  • Easy to retain with basic sheep fences.

  • Rams are virile, alert and active performers.

  • Hardy sheep that thrive in a wide range of Australian climates.

  • Excellent feet suitable for all paddock conditions.

  • Fully polled (no horns).

  • Suitable for organic style operations.

TRAITS OF AUSTRALIA'S VERY OWN SHEEP BREED

Their low birth weight, high growth rate, excellent muscling traits and multiple birth rates would be the most appealing genetic traits to the commercial prime lamb market. From a flock management point of view, their black feet make them less susceptible to foot rot and their white fleece never has to be shorn.

They are also polled which is appealing to both large producers and small hobby farmers.

From a retail market point of view, their meat has a distinguished marbling that retains a subtle lamb flavour and is well suited to restaurants that demand nothing but a high quality eating experience.
